Writing about recovery saved my life.
Long day at the office? Pen to paper.
Open bar at a friend’s wedding? Pen to paper.
Bored and alone? Pen to paper.
Writing about recovery saved my life.
Every single time I wanted to drink, I picked up my pen and put it to paper. I carried a notebook and pen everywhere I went. I left meetings and parties and sporting events to write. I wrote every morning when I woke up and every night before I went to sleep. I have more than 200 notebooks on a shelf in my office to prove it.
After four years of sobriety, I am ready to share my story in hopes that it will help someone else. Because writing didn’t just keep me from drinking. Putting pen to paper was just the beginning of my journey of learning to love myself.
And if I can do it, so can you.
